2004-2005 NBA Sportsmanship Award
The NBA Sportsmanship Award is presented with the Joe Dumars Trophy, named after the former Detroit Pistons who was the recipient of the inaugural NBA Sportsmanship Award in 1996. Grant was selected for his distinguished and dignified career and for his sportsmanship, ethical behavior, fair play and integrity.
Congressional Award Foundation’s Horizon Award
The Horizon Award is a special recognition from the U.S Congress for individuals who have contributed to expanding opportunities for young Americans through personal contributions to youth programs and who have set exceptional examples for young people through their success in life.
Golden Plate Award
The American Academy of Achievement honored Grant with the Golden Plate Award and inducted him into the Academy’s new Museum of the American Dream. The museum will preserve the life stories of the 20th Century’s most extraordinary achievers in various professions. “The Golden Plate” is awarded to America’s captains of achievement “representing the many who excel” in the great fields of endeavor.
Community Service Award
Variety, The Children’s Charity, is an international organization. This award is presented to those individuals who have made the welfare of children an integral part of their personal, professional and public lives in the Detroit Metropolitan area.
Sports Ethics Fellows Award
The Institute for International Sports named Grant one of the Sports Ethics Fellows for 2000. The Institute selects individuals who consistently demonstrate an interest in promoting the ideals of ethics and fair play in sport and society.
Rich and Helen DeVos Community Enrichment Award
Grant was named the 2000-2001 winner of the Magic owners, Rich and Helen DeVos Community Enrichment Award for his dedicated efforts off the court for the purpose of enhancing others’ lives.
Virginia High School Hall of Fame 2003
Inducted into the 2003 class of the Virginia High School Hall of Game. Grant was honored for his distinguished contributions in the participation in the athletic and academic activities of Virginia’s public schools.
